10,000 Invitations Issued in Latest Skilled Independent Visa Round

The Department of Home Affairs has released the results of the latest SkillSelect invitation round for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), held on 4 June 2026.

This was a significant invitation round, with 10,000 invitations issued for the subclass 189 visa.

Strong Results for Trades, Health and Education Occupations

The June 2026 round saw invitations issued across a broad range of occupations, with minimum invited points ranging from 65 to 100 points.

A notable feature of this round was the strong representation of trade occupations at the lower points levels, alongside continued demand for healthcare, allied health, nursing, teaching, engineering and specialist professional roles.

Occupations Invited at 65 Points

Several trade occupations received invitations at 65 points, including:

Airconditioning and Mechanical Services Plumber, Bricklayer, Carpenter, Carpenter and Joiner, Drainer, Electrician, Fibrous Plasterer, Glazier, Joiner, Plumber, Roof Plumber, Solid Plasterer, Stonemason, and Wall and Floor Tiler.

This is a positive outcome for many skilled trades applicants, particularly those who may not have very high points scores but are in occupations currently being prioritised.

Gasfitters Invited at 70 Points

Gasfitters were invited at 70 points, sitting slightly above the main group of trade occupations invited at 65 points.

Health, Nursing, Teaching and Social Work at 75 Points

A large group of health and education occupations received invitations at 75 points.

These included Audiologists, Clinical Psychologists, Emergency Medicine Specialists, General Practitioners, Midwives, Occupational Therapists, Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Psychologists, Registered Nurses across multiple specialisations, Secondary School Teachers, Social Workers, Special Needs Teachers and Speech Pathologists.

This continues to reflect Australia’s ongoing need for skilled professionals in healthcare, community services and education.

Broad Range of Occupations Invited at 80 Points

The 80-point group was one of the largest in the round and included occupations across engineering, construction, science, legal, health, environmental, trades and professional services.

Examples included Construction Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Environmental Scientists, Fitters, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Mining Engineers, Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Solicitors, Surveyors, Veterinarians and Welders.

This points band shows that many professional and technical occupations remain competitive, but still received invitations in this round.

Higher Points Invitations: 85 to 100 Points

Some occupations required higher points scores to receive invitations.

At 85 points, invited occupations included Architects, Chemists, Dermatologists, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologists, Food Technologists, Landscape Architects, Sonographers, Surgeons and Welfare Centre Managers.

At 90 points, Actuaries and Statisticians received invitations.

At 95 points, invitations were issued to occupations including Biotechnologists, Electronics Engineers, Life Scientists, Marine Biologists, Microbiologists, Multimedia Specialists and Telecommunications Engineers.

The highest minimum score reported in this round was 100 points, for Urologists.

What This Means for Skilled Visa Applicants

The 4 June 2026 invitation round provides useful insight into the current direction of subclass 189 invitations.

Applicants in trade, healthcare, education and key professional occupations may find this round encouraging, particularly where invitations were issued at lower points levels. However, invitation outcomes can change between rounds and are influenced by occupation demand, available places, points score, date of effect and government priorities.

Receiving an invitation is also only one step in the visa process. Applicants must still meet all visa requirements, including skills assessment, English language, health, character and points claims.

Next Invitation Round

The next SkillSelect invitation round for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is expected to be held by 30 September 2026.

Applicants considering a subclass 189 pathway should review their points position, ensure their documents are current, and prepare early so they are ready if an invitation is issued in a future round.
