Parent visa fees have gone up. Here’s what every stream now costs.

Parent visa fees have gone up. Here’s what every stream now costs.

From 1 July 2026, first-instalment charges for every Parent visa rose by about 25%. Below is the full breakdown — for the primary applicant and for each family member you include, split by adult and child.

If you’re sponsoring a parent to join you in Australia, the cost of lodging just changed. From 1 July 2026, the first-instalment Base Application Charge for every Parent visa subclass increased by roughly 25%. The tables below show the 2025–26 charge next to the new charge that applies from 1 July, for the primary applicant and for each additional applicant — adults (18 and over) and children (under 18) are charged different amounts.

These are first-instalment charges only. The contributory visas (143, 864, 173, 884) also carry a much larger second instalment (VAC2), paid later before the visa is granted; those amounts are set separately and are not shown here. We’ll confirm the full cost for your family’s specific case.

Contributory Parent (Migrant) — Subclass 143

Permanent residence. Charges shown are for a direct/new application. (Transfers from a subclass 173 visa pay a much smaller first instalment — see the note below.)

Contributory Parent (Temporary) — Subclass 173

A 2-year temporary visa, often used as a first step toward the permanent 143.

Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) — Subclass 864

Permanent residence for parents who are old enough to receive an Australian age pension. Charges shown are for a direct/new application. (Transfers from a subclass 884 visa pay a much smaller first instalment — see the note below.)

The non-contributory permanent Parent visa. A much lower charge than the contributory streams, but with a very long processing queue.

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) — Subclass 870

A long-stay visitor visa (up to 3 or 5 years) for parents. Only the first instalment rose; the second instalments are unchanged.

Charge2025–26From 1 Jul 2026Increase
First instalment$1,215$1,515+$300
Second instalment — 3-year visa$4,855$4,855No change
Second instalment — 5-year visa$10,925$10,925No change
Good to know

If your parent already holds a temporary contributory visa (173 or 884) and is moving to the matching permanent visa (143 or 864), the first instalment is far lower — from $445 to $555 for the primary applicant, rather than the full $6,300. Concessional and compassionate sub-categories also exist. We’ll confirm which applies to your parent.

The fine print

All figures are first-instalment Base Application Charges effective 1 July 2026 (previous figures in force 1 July 2025–30 June 2026). Contributory Parent visas also carry a separate second instalment (VAC2) not shown here. Direct/new-application rates are shown for subclasses 143 and 864; transfer and compassionate categories differ. Note that the 2026 instrument sets separate Pacific-regional and other/non-Pacific amounts for many items; the figures above are the standard (non-Pacific) charges. This is general information, not legal advice — we’ll confirm the exact charges for your family before you lodge.
